PROGRAM: Lt. Col. Angelica “Angel” Pilato, USAF (retired) will be the guest speaker at the next Oregon 8th Air Force Historical Society meeting at the Beaverton Elks Lodge on February 11, 2012. Angelica joined the military in 1967 during the Vietnam War. When the war ended for the US in 1972 she was a Captain charge of the "O" Club - Officer's Club - at Udorn Air Base in Thailand.

She took her collection of stories of her experiences from her years in the Air Force and turned it into a recently published book: “Angel’s Truck Stop, A Woman’s Love, Laughter and Loss during the Vietnam War”. Angel’s Truck Stop is the nickname given to the officers’ club that Pilato managed at Udorn Air Base, Thailand.

“I was what the fighter jocks called a ‘support puke,’ which put me at the bottom of the military food chain. My job was to run the officers’ club, which provided for the morale and recreation of the officers.”

Please fill out a membership form at the meeting.

The annual dues is $10. In addition, you can join the national organization whose dues are $25 a year. The national chapter puts out a quarterly magazine while the Oregon chapter puts out a quarterly newsletter plus a monthly news update.
